Quick answer: A custom 3D printing service means you send a 3D file, drawing or idea, and the print shop chooses the right technology (FDM, resin SLA/DLP/LCD, MJF/SLS PA12, SLM metal) and material, then prints it into a real part. CT3D has more than 12 years of experience, a head office in Binh Duong, 3 workshops in Ho Chi Minh City and drop-off points in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Da Nang, Can Tho, Bien Hoa and Vung Tau. We print from a single part, with nationwide delivery 1–3 days after printing. Indicative FDM pricing starts from 650 VND/g (≈ US$0.025/g) for PLA.
Many people looking for a 3D printing service for the first time ask: “I have an idea, a file I downloaded, or a broken part – can it be printed, where, and how long will it take?” This article answers exactly those questions from the perspective of a service workshop. If you want detailed unit prices by material and size, see how much does 3D printing cost – 2026 price guide. Here I focus on the service itself: what CT3D prints, how we work, and what you need to prepare to get your parts as fast as possible.
What Is a Custom 3D Printing Service and Who Is It For?
3D printing creates objects by depositing material in thin layers, one on top of another, following the exact shape of a 3D file. “Custom” or “on-demand” means you don’t need to buy a machine or learn software. You simply tell us what you want, and the workshop takes care of the rest.
This service suits many types of customers:
- Companies and R&D departments: need prototypes to check assembly, present to clients or test the market before investing in tooling.
- Factories and machine shops: need jigs, fixtures, replacement parts and spare parts no longer available on the market.
- Architects and students: need architectural models, project models and scale models.
- Creative product makers: figures, statues, gifts, trophies, mascots and decor.
- Dental, medical and jewelry: dental models, castable wax patterns and anatomical models.
What these groups have in common is low quantities, complex shapes and tight timelines. That is exactly where 3D printing outperforms traditional methods such as injection molding or manual fabrication.

Which 3D Printing Technologies Does CT3D Offer?
Each 3D printing technology has its own strengths. Choosing the right one is the best way to save money. The table below gives a quick summary. An in-depth comparison of the underlying principles is in 3D printing technologies compared: FDM, SLA, MJF, SLM.
| Technology | Main materials | Layer height / tolerance | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| FDM (filament extrusion) | PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, Nylon, carbon fiber | 100–300 microns, ±0.1–0.3 mm | Large models, jigs, enclosures, cost-effective load-bearing parts |
| Resin SLA | Standard, tough, clear, heat-resistant and castable resins | 25–100 microns, ±0.05–0.1 mm | Figures, statues, display models, small crisp details |
| Resin DLP/LCD | Various resins | 25–100 microns, ±0.03–0.08 mm | Small parts, jewelry, dental |
| MJF/SLS | PA12 nylon | SLS 80–120 microns; MJF ±0.05 mm | Engineering parts, snap fits, small batches with no supports |
| Metal SLM | 316L stainless steel, AlSi10Mg aluminum, Ti6Al4V titanium, copper, Inconel… | ±0.02 mm, roughness 6–10 µm | Spare parts, mold inserts, medical and aerospace parts |

Beyond printing, CT3D also provides related services: 3D scanning, reverse engineering, CAD modeling from photos or drawings, painting, silicone molds for replication, and CNC wood and foam machining. So you can hand us a complete product, from idea to finished part.
Which Technology and Material Should I Choose for My Part?
I usually ask customers three questions before advising. You can answer them in advance to save time.
1. What is the part for?
If it is only for checking form, display or photography, prioritize surface quality: resin SLA, or fine-layer FDM followed by painting. If it must be assembled, bear loads or withstand heat, prioritize engineering materials: PETG, ABS, ASA, Nylon, PA12 or metal.
2. How big is it?
Small parts under 5 cm need high detail, so resin is the right choice. Large models of several tens of centimeters are usually FDM printed to keep costs down. If you need a large one-piece resin part, CT3D has machines with build volumes up to 800×800×500 mm.
3. How many do you need, and by when?
1–10 parts: print directly. A few dozen to a few hundred: batch print, or print one master and make a silicone mold for replication. If it is urgent, tell us right away so the engineer can schedule the right machine.
| Need | Suggested technology | Suggested material |
|---|---|---|
| Display models, figures | Resin SLA | Standard resin, painted |
| Electronics enclosures, prototypes | FDM or MJF | PETG, ABS, PA12 |
| Outdoor parts | FDM | ASA |
| Factory jigs and fixtures | FDM | PETG, Nylon, carbon fiber |
| Clear parts | Resin SLA | Clear resin + polishing |
| Metal spare parts | SLM | 316L, AlSi10Mg, Ti6Al4V |

How Many Steps Does Ordering Custom 3D Printing at CT3D Take?
CT3D follows a clear 6-step process so you always know where your order stands:
- Send your file: STL, STEP, OBJ or 3MF via our website, Zalo or email. No file yet? Send photos, drawings or a written description.
- State your technical requirements: function, dimensions, color, quantity and deadline.
- Engineering file review: we check for mesh errors and wall thickness, and calculate material weight and machine time.
- Quote with lead time: you receive a clear quote, with cheaper alternatives suggested where possible.
- Confirmation and production: printing, post-processing (support removal, sanding, painting if required) and dimensional checks.
- Delivery: delivered to your door or picked up at the workshop.
With print-ready files, simple orders are usually completed in 1–3 days. Orders that need modeling or painting take longer. The exact lead time is always stated in the quote.
Where Are CT3D’s Workshops and How Does Delivery Work?

What Determines the Cost of 3D Printing?
Here is a short explanation of why two parts of the same size can differ in price several times over. Cost depends on 5 main factors:
- Material: PLA is the cheapest; engineering resins and metals cost much more.
- Actual weight: FDM is priced per gram. For example, CT3D charges PLA from 650 VND/g (≈ US$0.025/g) and ABS from 1,000 VND/g (≈ US$0.04/g).
- Machine time: the thinner the layers and the taller the part, the longer it prints.
- Post-processing: sanding, painting and plating are charged separately.
- Urgency and quantity: rush orders carry a surcharge; larger quantities get a discount.
Orders under 50 g are subject to a minimum order charge. Orders over 500 g or high-volume orders receive a dedicated project quote. For detailed unit prices by plastic type and size, plus resin surcharges, see the 2026 3D printing price guide. For MJF/SLS and metal, CT3D quotes per file. All prices are indicative.
Common Mistakes When Ordering 3D Printing and How to Avoid Them
Over many years of service, I have found that most delayed or reprinted orders come down to small mistakes during preparation:
- Wrong file units: a file drawn in inches but exported and read as millimeters makes the part 25 times smaller. State the overall dimensions when you send the file.
- Walls too thin: features under about 1 mm break easily in FDM. The engineer will flag them, but you should check in advance.
- Not stating the purpose: the part looks great but can’t take loads, or it’s strong but rough. Tell us clearly what the part will be used for.
- Mating parts without clearance: two parts modeled with 0 mm clearance won’t fit together. Read more in 3D printing accuracy and tolerances.
- Deadlines too tight: painted orders need extra time for drying and finishing. Share your deadline early so the workshop can schedule.
